  1. One of John Cale's very finest solo efforts, Paris is also among his most accessible records, one which grows in depth and resonance with each successive listen. A consciously literary work -- the songs even bear titles like "Child's Christmas in Wales," "Macbeth," and "Graham Greene" -- Paris is close in spirit to a collection of short stories; the songs are richly poetic, enigmatic 9/

  3. "Paris " is very unusual European record. A year after releasing "Paris ", Kraftwerk would break out with album and single "Autobahn", and David Bowie would salute them with "European canon is here" and enter into his Berlin period. But "Paris " is not that futuristic European canon. There is no electronica or synths on "Paris ".

  6. Dec 04,  · I've always considered Paris to be John Cale's best album. This version beats the previous one hands down because of the inclusion of eleven bonus "sketches and roughs." Particularly great is the title track presented with just a piano (minus the strings)--although the album version is also great, of course. The original album is just /5.

For a look at Cale's lighter work, check out Paris Recorded in California with members of Little Feat, the album is an enigmatic and breathtaking work, beautifully orchestrated and featuring lovely songs throughout -- most notably "Hanky Panky Nohow," "The Endless Plain of Fortune" and "Andalucia.".
